whats the deal with the tax rebate bush signed we get it this year?
Bush didn’t sign anything. There’s nothing to sign at this point – Congress hasn’t even passed anything yet, and that would have to happen before anything was signed.
At this time, this is only a PROPOSAL, not a done deal. Nobody gets anything unless Congress passes a rebate, and if they do, there’s no guarantee that it will match what the president talked about in his speech.
As proposed though, it is a REBATE on taxes – so only people who pay taxes would get it.
The proposal was to eliminate charging tax on the 10% bracket, the lowest bracket. Everyone who pays any tax at all pays some of their tax in the lowest bracket and would get the rebate. As proposed, you’d get the larger of the tax you paid or around $800 ($1600 for a married couple filing a joint return.) At the earliest, you’d get in in June or so.
